An unknown world

Whakamarama

Bay of Plenty/Coromandel

Kate, 10

As I stroll through the bush trees tower over me like I am the earth and they are the solar system. Widow makers cover the only patches of sapphire sky. I am amazed as I look at the trees of 300 years. I stare in awe at the Tuis and Fantails. It is the first time I have seen them this close. Water rustles through the gully creating a deep river. I hear a surprising noise. Chickens running free from their cage, spoiling the ground as they search for treasures that have taken hundreds of years to make. My Grandad is my very own guide to all of the things in his backyard bush.
