Walking Access Mapping System (WAMS)
When you head into the outdoors, it is very important to know where you are going and whether the land you plan to cross is publicly accessible.
The team at the New Zealand Walking Access Commission has created an online map service to help members of the public to identify publicly accessible land and other outdoor points of interest, such as walkways and fishing access points.
This online mapping service is called the Walking Access Mapping System (or WAMS for short).
On WAMS, you can explore topographical maps, aerial photographs or basic maps showing land title boundaries. You can zoom in and navigate horizontally or vertically across the map.
WAMS can help you plan camps, walks, field trips, outdoor activities and identify education outside the classroom opportunities in your region.
